The United Nations System Staff College and simpleshow foundation launch Volunteer Initiative around the 2030 Agenda
The United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC), through its Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development, and the simpleshow foundation announce a new Volunteer Initiative, which provides volunteers with a guided framework in order to create simple explainer videos about the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC), through its Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development and the simpleshow foundation have launched a Volunteer Initiative centered on explaining the 2030 Agenda.
The Initiative will engage volunteers worldwide in creating simple and entertaining explainer videos about the 2030 Agenda and its 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). At the United Nations, countries from all over the world agreed on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Heads of State and Government pledged to commit to global Sustainable Development Goals to be implemented by 2030 in order to make the world more just, more equal, safer and less polluted. There are 17 Global Goals that are set to be achieved in order to fulfill this agenda. These efforts will shape people’s lives today and tomorrow and help create a world without poverty, without hunger and without war.
Participation is an essential element of the 2030 Agenda – everyone who has something to contribute must be given an opportunity to participate and be heard! By creating accessible information around the 2030 Agenda and its goals, volunteers will contribute directly to the United Nations’ efforts to address the biggest challenges of this planet.
Volunteers will be able to sign up online in minutes, and create explainer videos with mysimpleshow, an easy-to-use online video creator. They can select from a wide variety of topics, such as “Why is water important for peace?” or “Describe one powerful way your country is fighting poverty”, and have the option of developing their own topic. Select videos will be featured on the simpleshow foundation website and YouTube channel and used to promote awareness and action around the 2030 Agenda.
“This volunteer initiative is a great opportunity for volunteers around the world to not only raise awareness about the 2030 Agenda, but move people to action,” notes Patrick van Weerelt, Head of Office at the UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development. “It builds on the strong partnership between the simpleshow foundation and the Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development, and I look forward to this new chapter of collaboration.” Susanne Ilemann, Head of International Marketing for the simpleshow foundation, adds, “Our partnership creates a completely new level of participation. Now everyone can explain the Agenda’s goals and topics with the irresistible power of simplicity.”
