simpleshow foundation promotes simple explanation at the UN Summer Academy 2017
At this year’s UN Summer Academy – a yearly event organized by the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) – held from August 21 to August 25 in Bonn, Germany, simpleshow foundation provided the participants with explainer knowledge and we officially launched our Volunteer Initiative!
During the Share Fair at the UN Summer Academy, Head of Office at UNSSC Bonn Patrick van Weerelt announced the Volunteer Initiative, a collaboration of simpleshow foundation and UNSSC. He stated:
“This Volunteer Initiative will provide volunteers around the world with a guided framework in order to create simple and entertaining explainer videos about the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)…It builds on the strong partnership between the simpleshow foundation and the Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development, and I look forward to this new chapter of collaboration.
…everyone who has something to contribute must be given an opportunity to participate and be heard!”

Susanne Ilemann, the Director of Marketing for simpleshow foundation, added how simplicity plays its role in explaining the 2030 Agenda’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals:
“Over the past almost 10 years we have seen what an amazing power simple explanation possesses. Simplicity is the key to accessibility, which is a precondition to raise interest and involvement.
[Therefore,]
…we encourage volunteers with different backgrounds & different levels of previous knowledge and expertise to join.”
simpleshow foundation Manager, Ilya Kompasov, and Key Account Manager Sven Gabbert were also in attendance to help spread the word about the simpleshow foundation Volunteer Initiative.
During the five-day Summer Academy, we held four App Lab presentations on the power of simple explanation, highlighting the effects of simple storytelling, complexity reduction, and how to use the online video maker mysimpleshow.com to create a DIY explainer video. The result: participants created their first explainer videos in a matter of minutes!
Overall, the UN Summer Academy was a great experience, and we can’t wait to attend again next year. In the meantime, we’ll keep on working to make the world a little simpler with the help of volunteers! Learn more about the Volunteer Initiative and how you can contribute right here.
