simpleshow foundation Attends the Digital Transformation Symposium
simpleshow foundation was invited to take part in the symposium “Digital Transformation” at the Corporate University of Baden-Württemberg on February 1st, 2018. Almost one hundred participants (professors & teaching staff) from corporate universities in Baden-Württemberg were in attendance. During the symposium, 11 workshops were held for participants. Workshops included “Digitalization as an Engine for Innovation and Transformation of High School Learning” led by Prof. Ulf-Daniel Ehlers; “Ecosystem – A New Paradigm of Interconnected Economy/Business & Learning” led by Prof. Dr. Ing. Pfisterer; and “Interactive Learning Environment” led by Prof. Dr. Sabine Moebs.
We contributed to the “Interactive Learning Environment” workshop and presented the video creation tool mysimpleshow as an online learning software for students. In addition to the workshop, simpleshow foundation had a presentation table throughout the symposium’s duration that offered a glimpse into mysimpleshow. You can see pictures of our set up here.
How Students Learn Using mysimpleshow
In current times, explainer videos are an essential part of online communication.
Students are constantly looking up videos online to supplement their learning in school or for autonomous learning outside of school. Creating a video with mysimpleshow is a great way for students to learn valuable knowledge and communication skills. The online, DIY video creator’s simple 4 step process (Draft, Write, Visualize, Finalize) provides skills training while creating.
- During the Draft step, students must understand what the main focus of their writing is in order to choose the correct template. This not only helps with understanding the message of the topic, but enhances decision making skills. Research skills are practiced during and prior to the Draft and Write steps as students will need to collect valuable information on their topic before writing a script.
- While writing the script, summarizing, clustering, and structuring the information are essential. Due to word count limits provided by mysimpleshow, students must scale down their scripts to only focus on the essential information the audience needs to effectively understand the topic. If students are writing their scripts in the form of a story with a character as a protagonist, creative writing skills are also practiced.
- The Visualization step challenges students to work creatively and think visually. Images must be chosen to match keywords in the text. Choosing images that correlate with the main message of the script enhance the storytelling process and help make messages more memorable. Plus, if students are working in groups, they can brainstorm together throughout the process!
- Once the video content is complete, students reach the Finalize step. Here, they can practice their oral communication and speaking skills by recording their own voiceover into the tool.
